Psychotherapy for Children

Child psychotherapy can help with feelings and worries that feel very BIG, as we know these can be scary and confusing.

*

These worries can be about school, friendships, angry feelings, sad feelings and more!

*

Sometimes it's hard for children to talk about these worries, so they show us instead by: playing, drawing, or showing us through their behaviour. As child psychotherapists, we then listen, play, and think about these big worries and feelings together.

*

With a little time playing and thinking together, we can begin to understand these feelings and the worries get smaller and less confusing.

*

We look forward to playing together, and please don't forget to bring the worries along!

Parents will always be around throughout the journey with us, because it's important we all work together.

We use a playful and child led approach. Play is essentially a smart way that children use to process and work through their feelings, thoughts, experiences to gain a sense of mastery over their feelings. In some children a capacity to play might not have developed yet, in this case, development of play capacity will be essential as we begin the therapeutic work together.

We will think about: What is preoccupying the child? What are they communicating through play? What the child might not be aware of and is reflected in their behaviour? Where are they in their development? How are they relating to us as therapists?

What We Focus On:

In therapy, we explore together what is preoccupying the child, what they are communicating through play, and what the child might be unaware of but reflects in their behavior. We also consider where they are in their development and how they relate to us as therapists. Parents play an important role throughout the therapy journey, as working together helps us support the child more effectively.
