Parenting Support
Parenting Support
We work with parents of children at various developmental stages. Whether its a tantruming toddler or a withdrawn adolescent, we can provide parents with support and developmental understanding of their child's behaviour.
Being a parent is a demanding job that doesn’t come with a manual. We know that children and young people can evoke powerful feelings and 'push parent's buttons'. Parents might find themselves stuck in a dynamic or cycle with their child's behaviour, feeling like their child is not reachable. Within a supportive and non-judgmental context we can equip parents with observational skills, identifying their own emotional responses to their child and increasing their sensitivity to what their child may be communicating. We also provide psychoeducational input; this gives insight to what is appropriate developmental behaviour (e.g. is my adolescent depressed or is this typical adolescent behaviour?). Combining your expertise on your child and our developmental knowledge we aim to empower parents' confidence and their approach to parenting (find full list of presentations we work with here).

We provide parental support that can either run alongside your child’s psychotherapy or be offered as a stand-alone service. In some cases, children or young people may not be ready to engage in therapy themselves, but parents can still seek guidance and understanding regarding their child’s behaviors. The number of sessions is tailored to your needs, and the sessions can be delivered either remotely or in person. We typically recommend a minimum of 2–3 sessions, each lasting 50–60 minutes, to gain a comprehensive understanding of your concerns and your child’s developmental needs. We offer both long-term and short-term interventions, and where appropriate, may include joint sessions with the parent(s) and child.
Start your journey by contacting us for any questions or to book a free 20-minute phone call to discuss whether this service is right for you.
